I knew from other reviews that I would have to adapt this pump to work with a regular 1/2" (12.5 mm) garden hosepipe. The pictures show how I did it. The parts needed (which I bought on Amazon / eBay) are (A) 2 x PVC reducing threaded nipple 1" x 3/4" BSP (B) 2 X Hozelock threaded outdoor tap connector (C) 2 x 22 mm rubber O ring seals. You don't need any tools just put the O rings over the large end of the reducing adapters and screw them directly into the pump - just hand tight is fine otherwise you squash the O ring too much. The result is great with plenty of pressure to drive the sprinkler.

Duh! Imagine being the most popular brand of water hoses and equipment in the UK, and then offering a piece of kit that lacks ONE vital piece of equipment. A 1" hose connector, to enable your standard UK 3/8" or 1/2" hosepipes to connect to the brand new pump you've just bought. Not available in any Hoselock stockist, garden centre or hardware store. Nope, you've got to send off to Amazon or direct to Hoselock. Does this win you friends, Hoselock? Judging from the reaction of the bloke in our local garden centre, who recoiled in horror when I flourished the pump connector at him, the answer is a resounding NO. I mean, how daft do you have to be, not to supply in the box the piece of kit everyone here will need?
ONCE I eventually got the right piece of kit, sawn off the connector to the required length, fitted the 'female' 1" connector to my pump, then fitted my standard Hoselock fitted hose, the pump worked like a dream, by the way.

I purchased this as I needed a more robust pump for my water butts. My submersible one (12 yrs old) had finally failed. Looking at the boxed contents initially, it looks a robust pice of kit However the assembly instructions are in diagrammatic form with no write up. Also very difficult to see what hose connection you require to connect to the pump on the discharge side.

On the paper diagram and on the side of the box you see the small picture of a saw which means you have to cut the connecting pipe to accommodate the appropriate connection. Shame if you get it wrong!!! The push fit connection provided has too large a bore to accept a standard Hozelock hose.

The choices are, Buy an appropriate sized hose (this is no good to me as I want to connect to a Hozelock retractable hose reel and do not want to open up the internals to replace the inlet hose.

Or buy a 1" connector requiring me to cut the discharge outlet on the pump in order to fit.

Not what I expected . Non standard fitments required and limited written instructions explaining fully what to do on the discharge side.

We have low water pressure and watering the garden or using the sprinkler is so frustrating! So I thought this pump would solve everything...AND IT DID!
it took some working out how to connect it out and had to BUY two Big Connectors (33.3mm) Hozelock code 2158 - from Amazon.
These connect to the outflow (top port) and after cutting the curved connector to the level of the thread, to the inflow.
It works a treat...but using the pump in this way connected to the garden TAP, isn't mentioned ANYWHERE..so if you want to boost the pressure from a garden (or any, I suppose) tap, this could be your answer.

The pump is a little noisy though hence only 4 stars

[UPDATE 08/08/18] Received my replacement the following day had it all hooked up within 10 minutes. As originally thought the metal thread for the suction hose was in the wrong way around on the original item - not on this one, all works fine. Ensure the priming reservoir is full and it will start up pretty instantly. Great pressure, runs a hose or sprinkler with the same pressure as a tap. Issue still stands that the 1" tap connector is not included, just order this at the same time (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00PNUC72G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) - Gardena is cheaper than the hozelock version on Amazon

Great product, worth the very little extra on top of internal water butt pumps. I haven't managed to use the product yet. I am currently returning due to the metal thread in the inlet appearing to be inserted the wrong way round - this is preventing the plastic connector being able to be screwed in. Also on inspection, as per the other reviews and questions, if you want to connect a normal garden hose, you will need to buy a 1" tap connector (again not a standard size) as this is not included despite the description of "Ready to use jet pump"! Looking at the product it appears to be of good quality, however I think poor development has been put into the target market (standard home use) area. I would expect it would have been easier to provide an additional moulded 'bend connection' rather than expecting customers to cut plastic to make it fit and buy additional parts - what if i want to use both hose sizes? Once I receive a replacement I will update this review on the thread issue and performance, however the others need to be looked at by Hozelock as a fundamental floor.
